This is a website just for Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra members.
KGWO is a community orchestra. We live and die based on the support and hard work of our members. Please think about what you can do to help your organisation thrive and grow. The more we spread the load, the stronger we will become. Not sure what you can do? Ask! Or even better, join the management committee! But its the simple things that make the difference. Help with setup and pack-up at rehearsals and concerts, welcome new members and make them feel at home, help with supper, put away chairs and risers, carry percussion gear - if you see something that needs doing, do it! We have a great organisation, lets keep it that way. Thanks everyone! :-)
Do you have a more recent photo for the banner above? Why not send it in and we'll update it!
G'day, KGWO🎼
Yes, this week's email is super, super early, due to the fact that I will be away from my computer all next week from tomorrow🙂
Our next rehearsal, on Thursday 16 July, is back in studio 2 for the last time this term. (We will be back in the concert hall afterwards though, for the remaining two rehearsals of the term.) Doors open at the newer, earlier time of 6.15 pm to allow for the additional percussion set-up. (On this, to echo Scott's comments at the break at our last rehearsal, thank you to all the helpers who arrived early to assist with the percussion set-up. It was a real team effort🥁🥁🥁 For our remaining rehearsals this term, please arrive at this earlier opening time to help if you can.)
Parking onsite should be fine, except that you'll have to watch out for people on foot as another 'Jury Experience' session will be taking place in the concert hall.
Regarding supper, as stated previously, it will be our trombones, first clarinets and bass clarinets providing something scrumptious on 16 July. And remember to bring your mug from home if you will be after a hot drink at the break.
Final running order variation
As discussed during the last rehearsal, the positions of Jupiter and Ride of the Valkyries are now swapped. Therefore the running order for the first half is now as follows:
The Winds of Poseidon
Skyfall
Into the Clouds!
Also Sprach Zarathustra
The Ride of the Valkyries
Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Winds of Change
I believe Steve will be issuing a pdf of this adjustment over the coming days, which I will endeavor to distribute via my phone.
Complete narration run-through
Our narrator, Ross Allen, will be all fired up by his 'taster' in our last rehearsal to give a glittering rendition of the complete 1st-half narration in the rehearsal on the 16th.
Music cuts and narration heads-up once again
The details (entries and exits) of Ross's narration will be bedded down during the rehearsal on the 16th, so it will be after this rehearsal that you will receive the important details (i.e. points within pieces where we stop playing to accommodate the narration).
As for music cuts, the only ones I have at the moment are the following.
Earth, Wind and Fire:
- cut bar 28 (therefore there is no repeat to this section -- only play the second-time ending, which is bar 29)
- cut bars 125-129 (therefore there is no repeat to this section -- only play the second-time ending, which is bar 130)
If I have missed other cuts, please email them to kgwo@kgwo.org.au 😆
Tickets
We've sold 68 tickets so far, with 233 available. Let's keep it moving😄
That's it for this week's email. Happy practising🎷🎺🎸🪘🥁🪇
Sincerely
Mike
