This is a website just for Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra members.
KGWO is a community orchestra. We live and die based on the support and hard work of our members. Please think about what you can do to help your organisation thrive and grow. The more we spread the load, the stronger we will become. Not sure what you can do? Ask! Or even better, join the management committee! But its the simple things that make the difference. Help with setup and pack-up at rehearsals and concerts, welcome new members and make them feel at home, help with supper, put away chairs and risers, carry percussion gear - if you see something that needs doing, do it! We have a great organisation, lets keep it that way. Thanks everyone! :-)
Do you have a more recent photo for the banner above? Why not send it in and we'll update it!
G'day, KGWO🎼
This week's rehearsal, on Thursday 26 March, is exactly one calendar month from our Liquid Landscapes concert on Sunday 26 April. Yes, the concert date is racing towards us fast and furiously but that's okay because everyone's practising hard (I know you are) and figuring out the edits required to make each part in the various pieces manageable
We haven't received an email from the Old Museum as yet regarding whether we are back in the concert hall this week, but as soon as I hear something I will let everyone know. But wherever we are in the building Thursday, we will be starting at the usual time with the doors opening at 6.30 pm. Supper will be provided by our sensational saxes, and although I say this in every weekly email, please remember to bring a mug from home if you want tea or coffee at the break, and remember to offer your assistance to our percussionists in their setup and/or packup.
Dale's cuts to our current pieces of music
A big thank you to Paul (alto sax) for compiling the following summary regarding Dale's cuts to our current pieces of music:
First Suite - we are playing movements II and III only, not movement I.
The Maelstrom - narration starts at bar 92, with Dale looping on bar 92 and then holding up her hand when bar 92 is played for the last time. She will then bring her hand quickly down at the start of bar 93 and then we play through as written.
Russian Sailor's Dance - after bar 37, we go to bar 122. We then play till the end and then return to bar 38 and play through till the end as written.
Sea Songs - after the D.C. (return to start) we play through as written but only play section D once (second time ending).
Draft running order (again)
In case you missed seeing it in my email last week, I've attached the draft running order again.
Concert ticket sales
We've now sold 68 tickets with 219 still available. Yes, we're slowly going in the right direction but we need to start amping it up. With only one month to go we have a lot of tickets to sell. Talk to your friends, family, work mates, uni mates and anyone else you can think of (even your dentist, you might be surprised to find they are keen).
I think I've said enough in this email, but I will email again once I find out which room (concert hall or one of the studios) we will be in this Thursday.
Happy practising.
Sincerely
Mike
